How it all started...
In March of 1891, the Reverend W. H. Randall first began meeting with a few believers in Auburn to establish a missionary church. The following year the First Baptist Church of Auburn was officially established on May 3, 1892 with 14 original charter members. During the first few decades the church met in the Templars Hall which was located at the corner of High St. and Lincoln Way. In 1898, the first church building was purchased. The "chapel" as it was called was located at the intersection of East Placer and High St. Eventually, new property was acquired and the church was moved to its current location at 139 E. Placer St. A new brick building was constructed in 1925-26. The church continued to grow and educational buildings were later added during the 1960's. During this same period of time the church also built a new sanctuary that was completed in 1967. Over the past 125+ years the church building has changed but our mission remains the same: to "preach Christ, and Him crucified" to a lost and dying world (1 Cor 1:23; 2:2).
125 Years of Preaching Christ
In 2017, First Baptist Church of Auburn celebrated its 125th anniversary as a church. With the passing of that event we were reminded of God's faithfulness. In that time FBC has had 40 pastors that have come and gone, but regardless of who has been in the pulpit, the message has always remained the same: "we preach Christ and Him crucified" (1 Cor 1:23; 2:2). When the Lord returns we want to still be found passionately proclaiming the Gospel message. As a pastor, it is my desire to preach like Richard Baxter once said, “I preached as never sure to preach again, and as a dying man to dying men.” May the Lord find us faithful when He returns.
Continuing the Mission
First Baptist Church of Auburn is committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a lost and dying world. We continue to partner with missionaries in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, India, Israel, and North America because we believe the need for them to hear about the life-giving message of salvation is critical. We engage in short-term missions trips to help support and encourage our missionaries all over the world and to help facilitate the spread of God's Word
